VH1 to Premiere New Series "Black Girl Beauty"

BY GERALDA MOISE

Since the beginning of time, Black women have shattered glass ceilings while simultaneously fighting to be heard, respected and understood.

Our bodies have been studied and scrutinized. Our hair has been approached and handled like science experiments, and our style has been hijacked and sold to the masses – labeled as another’s “original idea”. And our contributions to the beauty industry? Let’s just say, the world wouldn’t know what a good contour was if not for our Queens! (snaps fingers).

We’ve been deemed aggressive or problematic whenever we’ve passionately voiced our opinions on matters like being programmed to create division within our communities with the likes of colorism and body shaming.

With all of these obstacles, we’ve still preserved. While blazing our own trails, we’ve struggled to establish a public forum where we could unapologetically be ourselves.

Thankfully, that’s all about to change.

This Saturday, VH1 will premiere their latest digital series, exclusively on YouTube. Hosted by Gia Peppers, Black Girl Beauty will push the envelope on topics that directly affect the black woman like exploring our contributions to various industries, black-fishing, and cancel culture.

 And it won’t stop there.

To keep the conversation going, Black Girl Beauty has collaborated with organizations including: W.E.E.N, Black Girl Beautiful, Black Women’s Health Imperative, Black Girls Smile, Black Girls Can, and Pretty Brown Girl.

A first of its kind, the series was created by Vh1’s Sarita Nauth (Creative Producer/Social Media Manager), Felicia Stevens (Executive Producer,) and TNJ’s very own media maven, Geralda Moise, (Associate Producer).
