“You have to take care of your own backyard because you can take care of everyone else’s.”
Last night, The New Journalist had the pleasure of joining Bridging Access to Care, Inc. for their 2015 World Aids Day Awards Reception. A multi-service nonprofit health agency based in Brooklyn, BAC partnered with leading furniture retailer Raymour & Flanigan to host ‘Saving Our Homes, Saving Our Lives’ in effort to dedicate an evening to raising awareness and giving back. This year’s awards benefit honored Academy Award nominated actress Rosie Perez and POZ Magazine.
Hosted by FOX-5 TV News Reporter Lisa Evers, this year’s awards benefit aimed to continue the ongoing conversation of challenges faced by low-income and formerly homeless individuals affected by HIV/AIDS in New York City. The evening commenced with a special tribute and moment of silence for HIV/AIDS advocate, Dr. Beny J. Primm, for his diligent work on behalf of the Brooklyn AIDS Task Force. Following, activist Rosie Perez, received the World AIDS Day Humanitarian Award for her continued fight and advocacy for the prevalent epidemic. The nation’s leading publication about HIV/AIDS and the most trusted source for all health professionals, advocates, and communities, POZ Magazine was awarded The World AIDS Day Award for Excellence in Journalism.
The New Journalist continues to encourage all to be positive about HIV, rally together and bring awareness about the truth found within HIV/AIDS. Let’s maintain our involvement and efforts in hopes to ending AIDS by 2020.
